Per esempio ciò che noi chiamiamo calcare è una terra calcarea più o meno pura, intimamente combinata con un debole acido che noi conosciamo in forma gassosa. Se si immerge un pezzo di questa pietra in acido solforico rarefatto, questo assorbe la calce e si trasforma con essa in gesso; quel debole acido aeriforme viene liberato. Oggi parlo di una collaborazione davvero insolita, si tratta dello stylist newyorkese Robert Verdi che ha chiesto al brand di sneakers Vans (che solitamente non apprezzo particolarmente) di personalizzare una serie di modelli di Slip Ons con le stampe dei suoi tanti foulard di Hermes. Il risultato? Beh, davvero sorprendente stando alle foto: sono delle vere e proprie opere d’arte... Non a caso non sono in vendita quindi non ci resta che accontentarci di ammirarle in fotografia.

Today I'm featuring a collaboration really isolated, this is the New York stylist Robert Verdi, who asked the brand of Vans sneakers (which I usually do not particularly like) to customize a set of models for Slip Ons with prints of his many Hermes scarves. The result? Well actually some astonishing to see from the photos: they are real works of art! Infact they are not for sale... So we have to be content to admire in the picture only.

Che dire della nuova collezione di cappotti invernali di Burberry Prorsum?

Inizialmente, devo ammettere che ho trovato la sfilata alquanto noiosa e già vista. Ma non avevo affatto notato gli splendidi cappotti che rivisitano, per l'ennesima - ma riuscita - volta, il tema "militare". La lunghezza fino al ginocchio, il doppio petto ed i bottoni metallici li rendono molto austeri, quasi fossero reali uniformi di generali e personaggi alto locati fra '800 e '900. Il risultato? Questi winter coats sembrano essere stati creati apposta per esaltare le mie manie di dispotismo che spesso e volentieri mi contraddistinguono. Credo proprio che quest'inverno non può che presentarsi più rigido ed aristocraticato del solito.

At first, I have to admit I found the show quite boring and already seen. But I didn't notice the beautiful coats that revisit, for the umpteenth - but efficacious - time, the military's theme. Knee-length, double-breasted and metal buttons make them very austere, almost like the real uniforms worn by generals and aristocratic personalities between XIX and XX sec. The result? These winter coats seem to have been made especially to enhance my manias of despotism which too often characterize me. I believe that this winter will be more rigid and aristocratic than others.

In occasione della celeberrima manifestazione "Pitti Uomo" (tenutosi fra il 15 il 18 giugno) che ogni anno anima il capoluogo toscano, giungono, dalle più svariate località del mondo, molte personalità amanti dello stile, o sedicenti tali, pronte ed entusiaste di prendere visione di ciò che il modaiolo evento ha da offrire loro. Quest'intervento non vuole essere un cronaca nè, tanto meno, una recensione della tanto chiacchierata manifestazione e dei suoi/e dubbi/e partecipanti, bensì solo un elogio al buon gusto, il quale non può che emergere dallo stile nel vestire di molti fra gli invitati. Esplosione di giacche leggere e colori, quindi. Per far fronte sì ad un evento in cui l'eleganza la fa da padrona ma anche ad un caldo d'inizio estate di cui, necessariamente, bisogna tener conto.
Il risultato? Comoda raffinatezza.

This young girl recently started modeling for the Danish model agency Scoop models. After seeing her photo-shoots and her attitude on the catwalk at Copenhagen Fashion Week AW09 I have a gut-feeling that she is going to get far in the modeling world. Take a look at her photos and at her interview and judge for yourself.

Questa giovane fanciulla ha recentemente fatto la sua comparsa nel mondo della moda internazionale dopo essere stata scoperta dalla nota agenzia danese Scoop models. Visto alcuni sui ottimi shoots e la sua classe sulle passerelle nella stagione AW09 di Copenhagen. Ho un buon presentimento a suo riguardo: credo che, fra non molto, diventerà un modella famosa in tutto il globo. What’s the best thing about being a model?

What I love the most about my job is to create and tell through photos and expressions. I love to be able to create something interesting and beautiful — when the photos aren’t just about trends, but also have a certain story. Furthermore it’s also really funny and challenging to meet different new people, it’s influencing who you are as a person, because you learn to be outgoing and talkatively extremely fast.

Who’s your favorite Danish designer?

My favorite Danish designers have to be Noir and Stine Goya. Two very different styles, but I think each of them has something very unique and amazing about them!

Which shows will you be going in the upcoming CFW?

Well, I actually don’t know yet. But lets hope I will get a couple. I’m crossing my fingers.

Inizio questo post (mettendo così a tacere eventuali critiche del tipo: "Come si può comprare un capo di tale costo quando al mondo 3/4 dei bambini muore di fame", credetemi non è la prima volta che me lo sento dire)affermando che Burberry è un brand di lusso. Il lusso non è un bisogno primario, è un qualcosa di più per definizione. Quindi va ribadito che il lusso va oltre la fame nel mondo, per quanto grave nel nostro pianeta (nonostante Burberry destini 1 euro in favore dei bambini che patiscono la fame nel mondo per ogni sciarpa venduta). Ma veniamo a noi: il trench di Burberry, come ho sentito sostenere da molti, non nacque affatto come impermeabile per i contadini inglesi. Thomas Burberry disegnava e realizzava abbigliamento sportivo ed in particolare per la caccia, praticata a quei tempi, solo dalle alte classi nobiliari inglesi. Successivamente divenne uno dei capi preferiti della famiglia reale. L'impermeabile è nato come capo per la gendarmeria inglese, quindi fornito dalla Corona. Più tardi con esso fu vestita anche una squadra olimpica. Da questi pochi, ma determinanti, dati si può ben capire come il trench sia il vero capo-icona di Burberry, quindi comprandone uno, ci siimpossessa non solo del bel modello, o del bel tessuto, ma dell'intera tradizione storica del marchio. Il modello classico è il Britannia, poi rivisitato in chiave slim fit, per essere al passo con la moda in continua evoluzione, pur rispettando sempre il modello e soprattutto la tradizione che da sempre contraddistingue questo capo. Le finiture ricercate e le cuciture, ancora oggi fatte a mano, lo rendono un capo eterno non solo per quanto rigurada ciò che rappresenta e per l'eleganza che gli è intrinseca, ma anche per il fatto che è fisicamente indistruttibile. Che dire? Un capo che chiunque si definisca vero amante della moda e dell'eleganza nella sua forma più alta non può non possedere.

Later it became a favorite of heads of the royal family. The raincoat was born as police chief for English soliders, so provided by the Crown. Then, it was used to dress an Olympic team. From these few, but decisive, data you can well understand how the trench is the real head-icon Burberry, so buying one, you take possession not only of the beautiful model, or the beautiful fabric, but of the entire historical tradition of the brand . The classic model is the "Britannia", then revisited with a slim fit, to keep pace with the evolution of fashion, while always respecting the model and especially the tradition that has always characterized this chapter.
